How to type Traditional Chinese with Pinyin on Windows 11
Yes, Windows 11 can do this. The clearest documented route is to use Microsoft Bopomofo with its Hanyu Pinyin keyboard layout:
- Open Settings > Time & language > Language & region.
- Add your preferred Traditional Chinese language and make sure Microsoft Bopomofo is installed as a keyboard.
- Open Microsoft Bopomofo settings > Key assignment.
- Choose the Hanyu Pinyin keyboard layout.
- Type Pinyin with tones, or type it without tones and press Enter or Space to convert it to Traditional Chinese.

Tips and troubleshooting
The word I want is not first
Many characters share the same sound. Check the tone-marked Pinyin and English meaning, then look through the other candidates. Adding the next syllable can narrow the word list.
No suggestions appear
Check the Pinyin spelling and try one syllable at a time. The tool loads its character and word dictionaries from the internet, so it also needs an active connection.
The microphone does not start
Speech input works best in Chrome. Make sure microphone permission is allowed for StrokeGrid, then select the speak button again.
I chose the wrong character
Use 刪一個 to remove the most recent character or word. Your remaining sentence stays in place.
